Whenever I go swimsuit shopping, I have a hard time finding options that completely cover my backside. Most styles these days are especially cheeky, and while that works for some people, it's just not my vibe. That's why I went on a hunt for full-coverage swimsuits, and I found a few that have earned permanent spots in my wardrobe — all for under $40.

Most of my favorite swimsuits are from Aerie, but I also included a few Amazon options with thousands of glowing reviews. You'll find both one-piece swimsuits and bikinis with full-coverage bottoms available in a wide range of sizes. Keep scrolling through to check out the under-$40 swimsuits you need to get your wardrobe ready for summer.

Somewhere between a one-piece and a bikini, the Aerie Side Scoop Swimsuit shows off some skin while still offering full coverage on the backside. I have it in the green floral pattern, and I like to wear it with a white linen cover-up, white slide sandals, and a bucket hat for sun protection. It comes in sizes XXS through XXL, each with standard and long torso options, so you should be able to find your perfect fit.

Another monokini option, the Aerie Ruffle Cutout Swimsuit has a halter top with ruffles along the neckline, side cutouts, and leg openings. It has a plunging neckline and comes in solid black, so I like to wear it when I'm in the mood for something more understated. Throw it on with a pair of flowy shorts and sandals, and you're ready to hit the beach.

If you're looking for a true one-piece, opt for the Aerie Wrap One-Piece Swimsuit that comes in three colors and patterns. It has adjustable spaghetti straps and a fabric belt for a customizable fit, and it's made from 80 percent recycled nylon and 20 percent elastane. Plus, the suit has removable pads, so you can decide how much support you want in the chest. When I wear it with a pair of denim cutoffs, the swimsuit easily passes for a top.

A top-rated bikini option, the Cupshe High-Waist Set comes in seven color combinations and sizes XXS through XXL. It includes a ruffled top with adjustable straps and a pair of high-waisted bottoms with piping on the front. One Amazon shopper who was "expecting either the top or bottom to not fit" was pleasantly surprised that both pieces "fit perfectly," and they even went back to order more colors.

With 12,800 five-star ratings, the Hilor Crossover One-Piece Swimsuit is clearly a favorite among Amazon shoppers. It comes in an impressive 45 colors and patterns and sizes 4 through 16. The popular one-piece has cross-front straps, cutouts around the neckline and across the waist with mesh underneath, and removable pads in the bust. Fun fact: On a beach vacation last week, I saw at least five women wearing this swimsuit in different colors, and now it's in my cart.

A final cutout moment, the Cupshe Scallop Trim One-Piece Swimsuit comes in five colors, each with a diamond-shaped pattern woven into the fabric and scalloped edges. It has adjustable straps and slight cutouts under the bust and on the back. As one reviewer said, it's made from "good quality, thicker material." And after seeing my friend wear this suit last week, I can confirm that to be true.
